The turkish-german director Immo Karaman was raised in the industrial Ruhr Area of Germany. After studying Music and Art Science he started his carreer as a stage director at the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen, where his first productions were directly awarded with the Young Artists Award NRW.
Over the years his artistic work comprises more than 40 productions for many theatres and operas in Germany and Europe, as the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Finnish National Opera, Opera Leipzig, Staatstheater Nürnberg, Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Staatstheater Saarbrücken, Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz München, Staatstheater Kassel, Theater Dortmund, Opera Wuppertal, Theater Bern and Theater Klagenfurt.
His works were nominated for the German Theatre Award »DER FAUST« and the Austrian Music Theatre Award and got regularly mentioned as "best directing of the year" in annual critics surveys (as for "Doctor Atomic" (John Adams), "Ice and Steel" (Deshevov), "Peter Grimes" (Britten) and "Siroe" (Händel) ). His production of Britten´s "Death in Venice" was awarded with the "Star of the Year" by Münchner Abendzeitung. Future collaborations include the Staatsoper Hannover with his staging of Verdi's Otello. With the world premiere of the new opera "Die andere Frau" he will give his debut at Semper Opera Dresden this season.
